Trend in motion graphics: Simplified outlined shapes
We love to share our creative work and we love to observe the work of others around us. We cannot help but be shaped by this to some extent. These influences lead to trends in every creative field, with motion graphics being no exception, for example the geometric & circle animations, or the liquid motion trend.
Simplified shapes are spotted a lot in current graphic design and illustration, and are also commonly used in motion graphics nowadays. Design principles that define this ‘Simplified shapes’ trend include simplified illustrations, clean playful graphic styles, and basis patterns and color. The motion of this style is mostly neat, jumpy and fluent.
I would like to pinpoint another remarkable style-element added to this style, which presence is growing in the past few months: a clear and fat outline around the simplified shapes.
This allows the animations to have a bit more of a playful cartoon feeling to them. Which matches well with the simple but quirky characters used in a lot of animations using this style.
The style looks fresh but also a bit retro, reminding me of the Mr. Men illustrations.
